A man suspected of attempted auto theft is accused of packing a sawed-off shotgun and threatening the officers who arrested him Monday afternoon, police said.

Jesus Campos, 24, was allegedly caught by police in the 200 block of East Yucca Street in Oxnard trying to start a parked car.

When confronted by two officers, Campos reportedly concealed his hands beneath his jacket and threatened to shoot.

Campos then tried to run, but was caught and doused with pepper spray by the officers, authorities said.

After taking the man into custody and searching the vehicle, police say they discovered the illegally altered shotgun on the vehicle floor.

Campos was booked into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of possessing an illegal weapon, having a concealed, loaded firearm, threatening an officer and attempted auto theft.
