Motorcyclists, Police to Gather Toys for Needy
Hundreds of motorcyclists are expected to join the LAPD’s Newton Division officers Sunday in a seven-mile Motorcycle Toy Run to collect Christmas toys for needy children.
The trek, which will start at 11 a.m. at the Police Academy in Elysian Park, is dedicated to the memory of Pacific Division Officer Brian Brown, who was killed in the line of duty Nov. 29 in Culver City.
Motorcyclists will ride from the academy to the Newton area station in South-Central Los Angeles to drop off the toys, then head to the Crystal Springs Camp Site in Griffith Park for a barbecue and country-Western music concert. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to Brown’s 7-year-old son, Dylon.
Admission to the event is one unwrapped toy for children through age 12. Those without a motorcycle can participate by donating a toy to the Newton Division’s community relations department before Dec. 20.
Newton Division police will distribute the toys to children in South-Central Los Angeles as part of the division’s Christmas basket program for needy families.
