No Trade for Bure on Horizon

Pavel Bure’s holdout has already lasted longer than some soap operas--and it’s not likely to be resolved this week while the Vancouver Canucks are in town to play the Mighty Ducks and Kings.

Brian Burke, the Canucks’ general manager, said Wednesday at the Pond he does not have a deal lined up for the dynamic right wing, who has demanded a trade. The Kings and New York Rangers remain the logical takers for Bure, whose salary will exceed $8 million, but the New York Islanders are also believed to be a contender. The Canucks will play the Kings on Saturday at the Forum.

Burke would not discuss which teams he has talked to or which players might be involved in a potential deal. “There’s no timetable. I don’t know when anything is going to happen,” he said. “Things heated up a little bit during the [board of governors] meetings in Phoenix, but there’s still nothing imminent.”

He also said he spoke to King General Manager Dave Taylor in Phoenix, “but not about that trade. Not about Pavel.”
