Car Crashes Into Salon Window; 4 Slightly Injured

Four people suffered minor injuries Thursday when a woman trying to park her car at the College Square shopping plaza in east Ventura accidentally drove through the front window of a busy beauty salon.

The injured included driver Linda Paddon of Ventura, a manicurist and two clients.

Paddon, 80, was treated at the scene, and the others were examined at Community Memorial Hospital and released, Ventura police officers said.

More than 30 customers and employees were in the Blazing Scissors salon at 104 N. Ashwood Ave. when the crash occurred about 11 a.m., according to eyewitness Cheryl Brogdin.

The crash occurred as Paddon was trying to straighten her Cadillac in a parking space in front of the shop, officers said.

Instead of being in reverse, the car was in drive and Paddon gunned it and shot forward.

“I thought someone was out there burning rubber,” said Brogdin, a hairdresser.

“She took out three-quarters of the front wall, the window and the door.”

The impact pinned one client between a chair and the car, Brogdin said.

Business at the salon was halted for a couple of hours while the car was hauled out and glass swept up.

Salon services resumed in the afternoon.

Paddon is a regular customer at the salon and had been on the way to get her hair done.
