Have Christmas Blues?

Share

Hundreds of Orange County residents over the years have attended a different kind of holiday church service: the annual “Blue Christmas” service at Garden Grove United Methodist Church.

The sanctuary at 12741 Main St. has welcomed those who are struggling with problems such as failed relationships, deaths of loved ones, pain and isolation.

The church will continue its tradition with a service at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20. The public is invited to an evening of Scripture reading, music and prayer, followed by refreshments.

“This service is to acknowledge that for some people . . . this can be a difficult time,” said Erika Oderkirk, an associate pastor at the church. “Rather than turn our back on it, as a people of God it’s important to acknowledge the pain and difficulty and hold hands.”
