Michael Peca’s backhander goal broke a scoreless tie with 2:01 remaining and Dominik Hasek added another shutout as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the New York Rangers, 2-0, Friday at Buffalo.

Vaclav Varada, who assisted on Peca’s goal, scored into an empty net with 15 seconds left as the Sabres extended their unbeaten streak against the Rangers to nine games (6-0-3). The Rangers haven’t defeated Buffalo since December 1996.

Hasek, who has five shutouts this season and 38 in his NHL career, made 16 saves. Goalie Mike Richter had 30 saves for the Rangers.
