Losses Estimated at $300,000 After Camarillo House Fire

Flames shooting 25 to 30 feet in the air quickly consumed much of a one-story house Monday night and briefly threatened a neighboring home, authorities said.

The three-alarm blaze, visible from several blocks away, caused about $200,000 in damage to the home at 2582 Temple Ave., which was valued at $275,000. Estimated loss to the contents of the home was $100,000.

Flames rapidly set afire the wood shake roof and spread to the roof of the two-story home next door.

Firefighters managed to prevent significant damage to the second home and quickly extinguished that fire, said Battalion Chief Glenn Garcia with the Ventura County Fire Department.

“It’s something that took off quick, but we were able to get here in time,” he said.

No one was injured.

Fifty-two firefighters with nine fire engines and seven additional Fire Department vehicles used aerial ladders to fight the blaze for more than an hour.

Firefighters tried to salvage what they could from the home, piling Christmas ornaments on the sidewalk and saving family photographs from the flames.

Neighbors comforted the unidentified homeowners as they stood and watched their house and a large motor home beside the garage burn.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
