Good To Go

When you take away soup from Nate ‘n Al’s Delicatessen, it’s likely to remain hot until you reach home. That’s because the soup goes first into a Ball canning jar with a Kerr ring lid, then into an insulated bag, then into a plastic bag and then into two paper bags. Good choices are kreplach (dumplings filled with turkey and chicken) in chicken broth with fine egg noodles or matzo ball soup.

And don’t leave without some of the deli’s white fish salad, which you can spread on toasted bagel crisps to accompany the soup. The salad is mostly ground smoked white fish, mixed with a little mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard, sweet red pepper, celery and onions. Keep it in mind for a party appetizer too.

Soups, $3.50 a pint, $5.95 a quart; white fish salad, $10.95 a pound; bagel crisps, $1 a bag at Nate ‘n Al’s Delicatessen, 414 N. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, (310) 274-0101.
