Caltrans Told to Study Closure of 101 Offramp

Share

The City Council directed Caltrans on Tuesday to analyze the effects of closing a Ventura Freeway offramp that may be contributing to traffic jams and accidents.

The exit, at Haskell Avenue on the freeway’s westbound side, is considered dangerous because it requires motorists coming off the San Diego Freeway to weave across three lanes of traffic in a relatively short distance.

That maneuver can also slow westbound Ventura Freeway traffic.

Caltrans will now study the possible environmental and traffic problems created by a trial offramp closure, a process that could take about six months, said Lisa Levy, Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski’s chief field deputy.

The councilwoman held a community meeting in Encino last month to discuss the proposed closure. About 70 people attended, Levy said, and Miscikowski plans to appoint a panel of citizens to advise transportation officials on the proposal.
