Seminars to Explain How to Appeal Tax Assessment
County officials will sponsor 17 free seminars from January through March for people who think their property taxes should be lowered.
The meetings will be in Cerritos, Culver City, El Monte, Glendale, Lancaster and Van Nuys.
They are intended to help taxpayers understand the assessment appeals process. More than 75,000 appeals applications were filed in fiscal 1997-98, and more than 23,000 have been received so far this fiscal year.
The seminars will cover assessment appeals rights, how to prepare for a hearing, what qualifies as admissible and inadmissible evidence, and what to expect at a hearing.
