UC Irvine Women Overwhelmed by ASU

UC Irvine was no match for visiting Arizona State, which routed the Anteaters, 71-53, in women’s basketball Friday night.
Arizona State (5-2) started the game with an 8-0 run and never looked back.Leaf Newman (20 points) and former Esperanza High standout Leah Combs (17 points) led the Sun Devils.
The Anteaters, who dropped to 2-5, committed 23 turnovers.
Chelsea Mackey had 12 points and six rebounds to lead UCI.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Christian Heritage 75, Southern California College 73--Southern California College rallied in the final four minutes, but a shot at the buzzer bounced out to spoil the Vanguards’ comeback. Rashad Wilson had 21 points to lead SCC (4-7).
