NORTH AMERICA SYNDICATE

During their visit to his new apartment, Blaze informs Margo and Lu Ann that he has five roommates. He shows off his room, which Lu Ann declares a “closet.” Margo jumps to his defense and says, “Don’t listen to Lu Ann, Blaze . . . This space is full of potential. It just needs a make-over. I’ll mail you a copy of Home Beautiful. It’s full of decorating ideas.”

“What are you talking about Margo?” Lu Ann asks. “There’s nothing to decorate!”

Surveying the room/closet, Margo suggests back lighting, a straw sleep mat . . .

“Margo, stop pretending this place is OK!” says Blaze. “I already know the apartment’s a dump and my bedroom’s a hole! You don’t have to worry that I’ll run back to your apartment. . . . I like living here with my friends!”

“Thank goodness!” Margo says.

Later on the subway, Lu Ann, still upset over Blaze’s new apartment, says, “Blaze could suffocate sleeping in that closet.”

“He’ll open the door,” Margo says. “Remember there’s fresh air at his father’s ranch . . . but Blaze would have suffocated in a different way there!”
