COSTA MESA
Estancia High School students are hoping to bring some holiday cheer to 31 underprivileged families this Christmas. For the second year, the school has recruited its fourth-period classes, clubs and athletic teams to adopt a family.
The teacher who came up with the idea, Carol Wadsley, said she was amazed at the high level of participation and the number of gifts that have been coming in.
The Share Our Selves charity provides the school with a list of needy families, the number of children, and their clothing and shoe sizes. Estancia’s chapter of the California Scholarship Federation then assigns a family to each club, class or team.
The gifts will be taken to St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Costa Mesa to be distributed.
