Technicals, Ejection Mar UConn Rout
Richard Hamilton scored 21 points Wednesday night to help top-ranked Connecticut improve to 9-0 with a 102-67 victory over Fairfield that was marred by four technical fouls, an ejection and a one-game suspension for one of the Huskies’ top rebounders.
Didier Boucard of Fairfield (6-3) was ejected with less than three minutes to play after an intentional foul that leveled Rashmael Jones as he tried to finish a fastbreak with a dunk. Teammates pulled both players away from each other before tempers could escalate.
Connecticut’s Edmund Saunders, who swung at Boucard during the skirmish, was charged with a flagrant foul for fighting and must sit out the next game, according to NCAA rules. The 6-foot-8 Saunders is the team’s No. 2 rebounder, averaging 6.3 per game.
The teams combined for 56 fouls and Connecticut set a school record by making 39 free throws.
