Segment of Road to Be Closed 3 Months

A half-mile portion of Santa Clara Avenue between Central Avenue and Auto Center Drive will be closed to traffic starting Jan. 4.

The road will be closed for three months--until March--so construction can continue on the Nyeland Acres sewer project.

Butch Britt, deputy director of public works for transportation for the county, said only the portion north of the Auto Center Drive intersection will be closed.

“People will still be able to get to all the malls and shopping centers,” Britt said. He added that the county would try to accommodate local traffic during construction.

“They will have to kind of wind through,” he said, adding that there will be alternate routes for local residents.

Britt said it would not be practical to have 10,000 cars a day running over Santa Clara Avenue because of deep cuts in the ground.
