Tippy Canoe, and Maybe Jail Time and a Fine Too
Associated Press
DETROIT —
Timothy Boomer fell out of a canoe in the Rifle River and, flopping around in the water, began yelling in the direction of his friends.
Arenac County prosecutor Richard Vollbach said Boomer, 24, uttered a vulgarity with children nearby, violating Michigan’s 101-year-old obscene speech law that prohibits cursing or using vulgar or insulting language if women or children are within earshot.
Boomer faces a court hearing next month and a 90-day jail term or a $100 fine if convicted.
