Amgen Gives $17,000 to Academic Decathlon
* The Ventura County Academic Decathlon received a $17,000 grant from Amgen Inc. Sponsored by the Ventura County superintendent of schools office, the annual academic competition features high school students demonstrating mastery in 10 subject. Each participating high school will receive $1,000 to purchase comprehensive study guides and materials for student decathletes, and $2,000 will be used by the superintendent’s office to help pay for awards and an awards banquet.
Deputies Donate to Food Share, Shelter
* The Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs’ Assn. announced it donated $1,000 each to Food Share and Ventura County Rescue Mission in support of Christmas programs. Food Share is a regional food bank. The rescue mission provides food, shelter, clothing and other services to homeless and needy families.
