A gunman who shot and killed a 72-year-old man barricaded himself in his stepmother’s Signal Hill home on Monday before fatally shooting himself, authorities said.

After trying to make contact with the man for three hours, a Long Beach police special weapons team found the 30-year-old suspect dead inside the house in the 2300 block of Cerritos Avenue about 3:30 p.m., said Signal Hill Police Cmdr. Mary Risinger.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, barricaded himself as police responded to calls reporting gunshots from the residence, Risinger said.
