No. 1 Connecticut Makes Villanova Its Latest Victim

Swin Cash had 13 points as No. 1 Connecticut, coming off a 97-point victory, defeated Villanova, 74-43, Tuesday night at Villanova, Pa.

Connecticut (10-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big East Conference), coming off a school-record 117-20 victory over Quinnipiac, was held well below its 103-point average but easily won its 15th consecutive regular-season game. The Huskies led at halftime, 46-13, but were outscored, 30-28, in the second half, the first time that has happened this season.

Shea Ralph had 11 points for Connecticut.

The game was supposed to be part of a women’s doubleheader at Villanova, but the ABL game between New England and the Philadelphia Rage was wiped out because the league folded.

No. 2 Tennessee 92, Mississippi 51--Tamika Catchings scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead five players in double figures as the Volunteers beat the Rebels at Oxford, Miss.

Chamique Holdsclaw scored 19 points and Kristen Clement added 13 for the Lady Volunteers (10-1).

Tarsha Bethley scored 13 points to lead Ole Miss (9-3), who only trailed 15-12 midway through the first half. The Lady Volunteers then went on a 13-2 run to take control of the game.

No. 5 Louisiana Tech 79, Nicholls State 57--Shaka Massey had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Techsters (10-2) to victory over the Lady Colonels at Ruston, La.

No. 6 North Carolina 100, George Mason 62--Chanel Wright and Jackie Higgins each scored 14 points as the Tar Heels (14-1) won at Chapel Hill, N.C.

No. 8 Texas Tech 87, New Mexico 46--Angie Braziel scored 23 points, leading the Lady Raiders (11-1) to victory at Lubbock, Texas.

No. 14 Alabama 92, Texas Christian 71--Dominique Canty scored 24 points and the Crimson Tide (9-3) went on to victory at Jersey City, N.J.

No. 16 Virginia Tech 73, Mississippi State 52--Amy Wetzel had 11 of her 19 points in a game-opening 22-7 run and the Hokies (11-0) pulled away for the victory at Blacksburg, Va.

Louisville 77, No. 19 Nebraska 66--Jill Morton scored 26 points as the Lady Cardinals (9-4) shot 52% and upset the Huskers (11-2) at Louisville, Ky.

No. 20 Florida 96, California 70--Tonya Washington had 25 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Gators (11-4) to victory at Gainesville, Fla.

Auburn 79, No. 22 Virginia 61--Tasha Hamilton scored 20 points and the Tigers (9-2) pulled off the upset over the Cavaliers (7-3) at Charlottesville, Va.

No. 23 Memphis 76, Alabama Birmingham 73--Tamika Whitmore scored 23 points and the Lady Tigers (9-1) won their Conference USA opener at Birmingham, Ala.
