King announcer Bob Miller was honored for 25 seasons of play-by-play broadcasts with the franchise after the first period of the Kings’ 3-0 victory over Chicago on Saturday at the Great Western Forum.

With Los Angeles’ two other legendary announcers, Chick Hearn and Vin Scully, paying tribute, Miller was given a lifetime contract with the Kings and will have the press box at the future Staples Center named in his honor.

“The thing that I’m really proud of is the longevity because in this business and even in this town, a lot of people come and go,” said Miller, who also received a Tiffany’s watch, a color portrait, a weeklong vacation to any U.S. destination for him and his wife, Judy, and a commemorative trophy. “I’m really proud that I’ve been able to stay here for 25 years. I’ve been fortunate because a lot of new owners have come in and there were no guarantees that I would stay.”

The Kings’ sellout for Saturday’s game was their seventh in 25 home games this season, an improvement from last season’s four in 41. They are 4-3 in those games.

“It’s great to play in front of crowds like that [because] when we are leading in a game, they really keep us going,” said center Jozef Stumpel, who had an assist to extend his scoring streak to eight games and tie his own team high for the season.

Forward Yanic Perreault did not dress for the first time this season after playing in 50 consecutive games. King Coach Larry Robinson said Perreault, who has only three goals in his last 16 games, had been pressing.

“He might be a little bit tired, he’s played a lot of hockey and he’s not a real big guy,” Robinson said. “Seems like he’s trying hard but he’s not accomplishing much. He has to get his feet going and start making things happen for himself. . . . Sometimes, it’s good to sit back and see how the rest of the team is playing. To see what you have to live up to.”

Winger Sandy Moger and defenseman Doug Zmolek were both back in the lineup after missing games as healthy scratches. Moger’s second-period goal was his first score since Jan. 5 at Vancouver and Robinson was pleased with his overall effort.

“He played terrific, he played well defensively and a much smarter game,” said Robinson, who worked with Moger on positioning for nearly 20 minutes after Friday’s practice. “I was very happy. He works hard and tries to do well and always asks me what he can do in order to contribute more to the team.”
