Fashion Show Will Focus on Cancer Survivors

Share

Breast cancer survivors will model fashions designed for women with cancer at a noon fashion show Saturday at the Marriott Hotel at River Ridge.

The show, called “Heart and Soul,” will feature outfits by local designer Carolyn Vega. Guest speaker at the $30 buffet luncheon will be Beverly Kirkhart, publicist for the inspirational book “Chicken Soup for the Soul.”

Gloria Forgea, executive director of the Cancer Center of Ventura County, said eight of the 10 models have had breast cancer. Some have undergone reconstructive surgery and some wear prosthetics.

“Vega designs clothes for those women who have problems getting fitted for dresses if they’re wearing prosthetic devices,” she said. She added that vendors will be on hand as well; companies such as Althea’s of Ventura will display nightgowns and other garments that work well with prosthetic devices.

The event runs until 4 p.m. The Marriott is at 2101 Vineyard Ave. For information, call 988-2641.
