South Alabama Blanks Northridge

Cal State Northridge managed only five singles against No. 18-ranked South Alabama and had its three-game winning streak snapped, 12-0, Friday in a baseball game at Eddie Stanky Field in Mobile, Ala.

South Alabama (1-0) scored in each of the first four innings to take a 7-0 lead against Jose Vasquez (1-2).

Matador relievers Kevin Fujimota and Jeff Martin held South Alabama scoreless for two innings, but Ray Morawski allowed five runs in the seventh.

Northridge catcher Jeremy Sickles had three hits and Darren Dyt and Jamie Hay each had one hit for Northridge (4-5).

South Alabama’s Jason Norton allowed four hits, struck out six and walked two in seven innings.

Tim Baron (1-0) will start for Northridge today in the second game of the three-game series.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Pepperdine 77, St. Mary’s 72--Dana Sulenski made six free throws down the stretch for the victorious Waves in a West Coast Conference game at Pepperdine.

Sulenski finished with 16 points for the Waves (17-7, 7-2).

Kelly Morris scored 28 points for St. Mary’s (13-8, 4-5).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Hawaii d. CS Northridge, 12-15, 15-9, 16-14, 15-9--Chad Strickland had 30 kills for the host Matadors (2-4, 0-4) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.

Andre Breuer had 21 kills for Hawaii (7-1, 5-0).
