Area Sales Promise Sweet Deals for Valentine Shoppers

Share
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

By scheduling the first sales event of the year today, two days before Valentine’s Day, Tuesday Morning has likely guaranteed that it will have a crowd waiting at the doors of its five area locations.

One of the deals is on boxes of Millionaires chocolates from Pangburn Candy Corp. Instead of the retail price of $6.96, the close-out price here is $2.99. A limit of two boxes to a customer is probably the only insurance you will have against all of them being gone by the time you get there. “The boxes are discontinued but the candy is fresh,” says advertising manager Jacques O’Neil.

This is the first time for this particular offer, but deals are not limited to candy. Linens, tabletop and home accessories make up most of the inventory, and lampshades in “hard-to-find” sizes that retail for $10 to $60 are being offered at close-out prices of $3.99 to $19.99.

Some pieces of Royal Doulton dinnerware, Beatrix Potter and Brambley Hedge dinnerware reflect deep discounts (always 50% or more) and some handsome cotton coverlets are 68% off.

Four annual sales events are scheduled for 1998: Feb. 12 to March 31, April 21 to June 30, Aug. 6 to Sept. 20 and Oct. 11 to Dec. 31. The stores are not open in the interim. Timing is the trick in shopping these sales, so if you find something in the companies’ eight-page flier--assuming you are one of the 300,000 on their mailing list--get there early.

Why the name Tuesday Morning? When the founder, Lloyd Ross, was a youngster, he delivered the Saturday Evening Post and found that people always liked the name. So he decided that when he had his own company, he would name it after a day of the week, and “Tuesday is considered by some as the first positive day of the week,” he says.

The locations of Tuesday Morning in the San Fernando Valley are: Chatsworth, 10130 Mason Ave., (818) 882-7677; Encino, 17563 Ventura Blvd., (818) 981-2797; Studio City, 11239 Ventura Blvd., (818) 508-5334; and Woodland Hills, 21524 Victory Blvd., (818) 346-3346.
