Declaration Puts City on Path to Storm Repair Funds

Share

The City Council has passed a resolution declaring a state of emergency after last week’s storm.

Nearly 2 inches of rain pounded the city last Saturday, flooding Heisler Park, Main Beach and the animal shelter. The storm also damaged several storm drains, said Terry Brandt, the director of municipal services.

Many hillsides were still wet from the Dec. 6 storm, causing slides at the park and other locations, Brandt said.

He estimated that cleanup and repairs would cost the city $700,000.

The council’s resolution Tuesday makes the city eligible to receive state and federal financing for repairs, City Manager Kenneth C. Frank said, as long as the county and the state also declare emergency status.

Mayor Steve Dicterow praised city employees who participated in the cleanup for “how quickly you’ve been able to respond to these emergencies.”
