Tritons Surprise Capistrano Valley

San Clemente scored with four minutes remaining in Wednesday’s game after Chad Dains and Capistrano Valley goalkeeper Jon Tarnow collided chasing down a through ball, and A.J. Jaramillo was there to knock it in the net to give the eighth-ranked Tritons a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Capistrano Valley in South Coast League boys’ soccer.

Kevin Mehrens had four saves to earn his 10th shutout and third in a row for San Clemente (15-3-5, 7-1-1) , which moves into a tie for first with Capistrano Valley (21-3-2, 7-1-1).

In the Century League:

No. 9 Santa Ana Valley 3, Orange 1--Robert Blanco and Fernando Rico each scored second-half goals to clinch the league title for Santa Ana Valley. Blanco had two goals and Rico had a goal and an assist. Enio Bravo had seven saves for the Falcons (16-3-1, 8-1).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 1, Kennedy 0--Mark Wade recorded his 15th shutout of the season for El Dorado (18-5, 9-0). Ignacio Cid scored in the 25th minute.

Katella 2, Century 2 (OT)--John Vargas tied the score on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining in regulation for Katella (6-12-6, 1-5-3). A victory would have put Century (7-11-2, 4-4-1) in the playoffs.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 1, Sonora 0 (OT)--Agustine Quintero scored with three seconds left in overtime for La Habra. Alfredo Barrosso had 16 saves for the Highlanders (7-7-4, 5-3).

In the Golden West League:

Servite 2, Ocean View 1 (OT)--Javier Vallejo scored in the 105th minute for Servite. Mark Kisting scored the other goal for the Friars (21-5-1, 6-4). Mauricio Brionez scored for Ocean View (14-11, 5-5).

Tustin 2, Westminster 1 (OT)--Giovanni Garzona scored in the seventh minute of overtime for Tustin (3-16, 2-8). The Tillers trailed at halftime, 1-0, but tied the score on Garzona’s first goal of the game.

As a result of three red cards, Tustin played three players short after the 60th minute.

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 7 Laguna Hills 2, Costa Mesa 0--Ryan Johnson scored his 18th goal of the season and Kevin McConaughy his 14th for Laguna Hills (18-4-3, 7-1-1), which can clinch the league title with a victory against Aliso Niguel on Friday.

In the Sea View League:

No. 3 Santa Margarita 5, Corona del Mar 0--Perry Valaskantjis scored two goals for first-place Santa Margarita (15-3-3, 7-2), which can secure the league title with a victory or tie against second-place Woodbridge on Friday.

Newport Harbor 2, No. 4 Woodbridge 0--Luis Cifuentes and Austin Alhgren each scored for Newport Harbor (6-5-2, 4-3-2). Woodbridge is 15-2-6, 5-2-2.

El Toro 3, Irvine 3--Grant Bechtold and Danny Roda each scored to give Irvine a 2-0 lead at halftime but Julian Gaitan scored three times in the second half for the Chargers. Gaitan’s third goal tied the score with five minutes remaining.

Bechtold scored twice for the Vaqueros (8-6-4, 3-4-2).

In the Sunset League:

No. 5 Fountain Valley 3, Huntington Beach 2--Nick Tolman scored two goals and Aaron Carter scored one for Fountain Valley (16-5-1, 7-2), which clinched at least a tie for the league title.

Dave Mercier and Freddy Chemberlen combined to score for the Oilers (5-3-1 in league).

Los Alamitos 3, Edison 0--Los Alamitos’s Christian Materazzi had five saves and set a school record with his 10th shutout of the season. The Griffins are 14-6-2, 4-4-1 in league.
