Mark Anthony, a business agent and personal manager for comedian Bob Hope for 50 years, died Friday in his Toluca Lake office. He was believed to be 80.

Anthony apparently died of a heart attack, according to Ward Grant, a spokesman for the 94-year-old Hope. Grant said Hope had been told of the death and was saddened.

The agent had worked for Hope since 1948, arranging personal appearances and real estate transactions.

Anthony also ran the Mark Anthony Agency, based in San Francisco, which handled other entertainers.

Anthony was a friend and supporter of Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who issued a statement Friday afternoon describing him as “a man with a big heart, who cared deeply for his community . . . a very giving person.”

“Mark was Bob Hope’s right-hand man,” the supervisor said. “He was the one who got the job done, no matter what the assignment or its difficulty.”

Anthony is survived by his wife, Ann, of La Canada Flintridge and three children.
