Kris Johnson Sent to Class for Violence Intervention

UCLA senior forward Kris Johnson, accused of beating and threatening a fellow UCLA student in September, last week agreed to enroll in a violence intervention and alcohol abuse program, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said Friday.

After reviewing accusations made by Jevon Hatcher, a UCLA junior who claimed that Johnson punched him several times and later threatened to shoot him after an argument at a Westwood restaurant on Sept. 27, it was decided that the case lacked sufficient evidence to file charges, said Assistant City Atty. William N. Sterling.

Instead, a conference with Johnson, Hatcher and a representative from the city attorney’s office was held Feb. 3. Johnson apologized and agreed to complete the 40-hour program scheduled for early April, Sterling said.

UCLA Coach Steve Lavin also attended the meeting.

Johnson could not be reached for comment.
