1 Killed in Collision on Conejo Grade
A Moorpark man was killed Monday afternoon after his truck was hit by a tractor-trailer on the Ventura Freeway.
The accident snarled traffic for hours on the freeway’s northbound lane as investigators worked into the evening at the scene.
The crash apparently occurred when a the tractor-trailer’s driver, James Greene of Simi Valley, lost control of the vehicle coming down the steep Conejo Grade. His vehicle, which carried a skip loader, rammed a pickup truck from behind near Camarillo Springs Road about 1 p.m., California Highway Patrol officials said.
Both vehicles slammed into an embankment. The driver of the pickup, Ismael Val Chaidez, 45, of Moorpark, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Greene suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.
