Stephen Horvath, 77; Worked at Mission

Stephen Horvath, a longtime Ventura resident who worked at San Buenaventura Mission and Holy Cross School for 15 years, died Tuesday. He was 77.

Born Jan. 26, 1921, in Aurora, Ill., Horvath lived in Ventura County for 53 years. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Ventura Post 339.

Before he took a job as maintenance supervisor at San Buenaventura Mission and Holy Cross School, he worked as a carpet installer for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; his sons, Robert of Virginia and Stephen of Costa Mesa; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main St., Ventura. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at San Buenaventura Mission, followed by burial at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
