Teen Killed by Train in Apparent Suicide
An 18-year-old homeless man died Friday afternoon after throwing himself in front of a Metrolink commuter train in Simi Valley, authorities said.
The man, whose identity was being withheld until relatives were notified, jumped onto the tracks about 2:20 p.m. near 1st and Agnew streets, said Simi Valley Police Sgt. Carl Becker.
The train was about 400 yards away when the crew saw the man, but the train was unable to stop until about 500 yards after striking him.
The impact threw the man clear of the tracks, and he was pronounced dead shortly after emergency crews arrived. The commuter train was delayed as police investigated the incident.
