An 18-year-old Anaheim man was in critical condition Sunday after being attacked and stabbed during a party over the weekend, police said.

Police received a call about 10 p.m. Saturday from Anaheim Memorial Medical Center, reporting a stab victim in their emergency room.

Officers said they arrived to find Jose Duenas severely injured with 11 stab wounds in the back, chest and abdomen, along with a collapsed lung.

Duenas told them he had been attacked by several men at a “flier” party, one that’s advertised through fliers and usually draws large crowds, said Sgt. Phil Dascenzi.

A friend of Duenas’, who had been a witness to the attack and who had driven him to the hospital, led police back to the party at 5941 Marshall Ave., where police began interviewing additional witnesses. It was estimated that between 150 and 200 people attended the party, most in their teens or early 20s.

“Apparently, there were anywhere from four to six attackers,” Dascenzi said. “Duenas and a couple friends were walking into the party and passed another group walking out. We don’t know what happened to start the ruckus, but the other group all just went for this one kid. Everybody was punching him with their fists, and one had a knife.”

Duenas was later transferred to UCI-Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition.

The attack remains under investigation.
