Titans Rally to Get Past Bruins, 11-8

Cal State Fullerton scored five runs in the final three innings to beat UCLA, 11-8, in a nonconference game Wednesday at UCLA. Pitcher Jason Stewart pitched the seventh and eight innings to pick up his first victory of the season.

Adam Johnson pitched the ninth inning for his first save of the season.

Kevin Duck had two home runs and four runs batted in for the Titans (8-5). Reed Johnson and Aaron Rowand each had two hits for CS Fullerton.

Nick Lyon had three hits, two runs and two RBIs for UCLA (7-8).

In nonconference baseball:

Chapman 12, La Verne 0--Aaron Rifkin had three hits, two runs scored and four RBIs for visiting Chapman. Luis Garcia had three hits, three runs and one RBI for the Panthers (6-2). Jeff Blitstein pitched a five-hitter over seven innings for Chapman.

In nonconference softball:

Southern California College 2-2, CS Dominguez Hills 1-1--Jen Houston gave up only one single and struck out eight in the first game of a doubleheader. Heather Rogers drove in the second and go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Gretchen Brandt had an RBI double for the Vanguards (8-2). In the second game, Brandt gave up four hits and one run in six innings. Brandt gave up three singles to load the bases in the seventh.

Reliever Houston (5-1) got a strike out and two ground outs for her first save.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 5, Long Beach State 4--Former Woodbridge standout Natalie Exon, the No. 2 singles player for UC Irvine, defeated Sarah Denson, 6-3, 6-2. She teamed with Nickole Kabe to defeat Diane Asis and Judy Esmero, 8-1.
