Lawmakers Seek Funds to Renovate Historic Adobe
Local legislators are seeking another $1.5 million to renovate the historic Pio Pico Mansion, which has not undergone major work in nearly a century.
The city and the state have $3.7 million in county and federal funds for the restoration project, but need more than $5 million to repair damage from two earthquakes and restore the furnishings and landscaping.
Assemblyman Gary Miller (R-Diamond Bar) is trying to secure $1.5 million in state funds for the project. Legislation has also been introduced to appropriate $1.5 million for the mansion.
The two-story adobe, built in 1852 along the San Gabriel River, was a rural refuge for California’s last Mexican governor. The adobe and its grounds were converted into a state park in 1917.
