A 34-year-old resident of a board-and-care facility was stabbed to death Tuesday night, and his roommate was arrested on suspicion of murder, Los Angeles police said.

When police arrived at the facility in a residential neighborhood in the 13000 block of Reedley Street about 9 p.m, the victim was already dead, authorities said. Police did not release the dead man’s name, pending notification of next of kin.

The suspected assailant, Carl Hardmon, initially fled but was persuaded by the facility’s staff to return, said LAPD Det. Frank Bishop.

Hardmon, 52, was taken to the Van Nuys jail and his bail was set at $1 million, said a jail spokeswoman.

Residents at the facility who witnessed the confrontation told police that the men had been arguing in the kitchen and that Hardmon stabbed the victim in the chest, killing him, Bishop said.

Police took several knives from the house for blood tests to determine if one was used as the murder weapon, but Bishop said results would take several days.

Property records show the house is owned by Teodoro Felix, Lucita Felix and Teodoro Felix Jr. Lucita Felix, reached by telephone Wednesday, declined to comment.
