Key to the Cornhuskers’ option attack is quarterback Scott Frost, who passed for 1,237 yards and rushed for 1,095. Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning has received clearance to start despite a badly swollen right knee. He passed for 36 touchdowns and 3,819 yards in 12 regular-season games. Volunteer Coach Phil Fulmer has received a contract extension through 2003 at $750,000 a season.
