Recycling Your Tree

Generally, curbside recyclers will not pick up flocked trees. Ornaments, tinsel and tree stands must be removed, and trees over 6 feet tall must be cut at least in half.

Those bringing a tree to the recycling centers will receive a discount ticket to the Los Angeles Zoo and one free admission for either L.A. Theater Center or the Hollyhock House at Barnsdale Park. Trees may also be cut into pieces and placed in green recycling trash bins. Trees may extend up to one foot above the container top. Flocked trees cannot be recycled, so they should be cut up and placed in black containers. It is illegal to place whole trees on streets or in alleys. Information: (800) 587-3356.

ALHAMBRA

CERRITOS

CULVER CITY

Curbside pickup until mid-January. Major apartment complexes will be provided with dumpsters. Information: (310) 253-6410.

DOWNEY

Curbside pickup from single-family homes with regular trash collection day. Trees taller than 4 feet should be cut in half. Apartment residents can take their trees to the Downey Physical Services Yard, 12324 Bellflower Blvd., 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.

EL SEGUNDO

Curbside pickup with regular trash collection through Friday. Drop-off site open until then at El Segundo Maintenance Facility, 150 Illinois St.

GARDENA

Curbside pickup with regular trash collection through Jan. 10. Drop-off at Alondra Park, 3850 Manhattan Beach Blvd., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday.

HERMOSA BEACH

Pickup with regular trash collection through Jan. 17. Drop-off through Jan. 17 at City Hall, 1315 Valley Drive.

INGLEWOOD

Pickup with regular trash collection through Friday.

LAWNDALE

Pickup on second trash pickup day of week. Tree must be placed at curb by 6 a.m. Drop-off at the Lawndale Maintenance Facility, 4722 Manhattan Beach Blvd., through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Trees can also be dropped off at Alondra Park, 3850 Manhattan Beach Blvd., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday.

LOMITA

Pickup with regular trash collection through Jan. 10. Drop-off at Harbor Regional Park, 15820 Vermont Ave. today, Sunday and Jan. 10-11, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

LONG BEACH

Curbside pickup Jan. 10. Trees must be on curb by 6 a.m. Trees over 12 feet tall should be cut in half. Drop-off at city refuse yard, at Willow and Temple streets, next Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Drop-off also at eight city parks today, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., at Bixby Park, Cherry Avenue and Broadway; Drake Park on Maine Avenue, between 9th and 10th streets; Houghton Park, Atlantic Avenue and Harding Street; Scherer Park, Atlantic Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard; Veterans Memorial Park, Pacific Avenue and 28th Street; Wardlow Park, East Wardlow Road, east of Bellflower Boulevard; El Dorado Park West, North Studebaker Road, between Spring and Willow streets; Recreation Park, 801 Federation Drive and 7th Street.

MALIBU

REDONDO BEACH

Curbside pickup at single-family homes Monday through Jan. 16. Residents of multifamily homes and apartment buildings can drop off trees Saturday and Jan. 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at Alta Vista Park, Anderson Park and Redondo Beach Recycling Center. Information: (310) 318-0613.

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES

Curbside pickup through Jan. 17.

SANTA MONICA

Trees can be taken to city parks today and Jan. 10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Locations: Clover Park at 25th Street and Ocean Park Boulevard; Douglas Park at Chelsea Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard; Christine Emerson Reed Park at Lincoln and California; Los Amigos Park at 5th and Hollister streets. Throughout January, trees can be taken to the Santa Monica Transfer Station, 2401 Delaware Ave., 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Flocked trees are accepted, as are wooden tree stands.

TORRANCE

Curbside pickup through next Thursday. Trees must be left at curb by 7 a.m. All trees over 6 feet must be cut in half.

WEST COVINA

Pickup with regular trash collection next week.

WEST HOLLYWOOD

Curbside tree recycling Monday through Saturday until Jan. 16. Information: (800) 350-4161.

WHITTIER

Pickup with regular trash collection through Friday. Remove tree stand, nails, tinsel and decorations and place tree next to trash container.
