Cool-Looking Pasta

Castellana pastas come in colors, which will fade a bit in cooking (even the dark purple of the trecce nere, which are colored with squid ink), but who cares? They’d look great in a jar in your kitchen, especially the foglie d’autunno (“autumn leaves”), with their rough rustic texture.

Dine on Sam Francis

The four designs of these limited-edition plates come from prints made by the late Abstract Expressionist artist Sam Francis, who was fascinated by the effects of chance in art. He made the original patterns by putting inked paper into a high-powered press. These reproductions, made in cooperation with the Sam Francis estate, are meant to be used; they’re lead-free and dishwasher-safe.

Crafty Women

Local Color is a gallery founded three years ago by a group of women to showcase their wares. Nekesa Sepihwe made the bowl and espresso cup and saucer sets; the tray is by Julie van Herwerden.
