* Richard Alamanza, Sr., OL, Rio Mesa: He was a redshirt lineman at Moorpark College after suffering a knee injury.

* Mike Anger, Sr., OL, Camarillo: Gave up football to become a part-time starter for the UC Irvine soccer team.

* David Bernal, Sr., DL, St. Bonaventure: A year after recording 81 tackles and eight sacks for the Seraphs, Bernal started on the defensive line at Ventura College.

* Joe Borchard, Sr., QB, Camarillo (player of the year): Borchard, who passed for 2,851 yards and 30 touchdowns in 1996, was a redshirt quarterback at Stanford.

* Joey Cuppari, Jr., DB, Westlake: He had 72 receptions for 1,248 yards and 22 touchdowns, kicked 14 of 15 extra points and a field goal, and intercepted two passes to increase his school record to 13 career interceptions.

* Chris Czernek, Sr., QB, Newbury Park (offensive player of the year): Was a redshirt freshman at Cal Poly SLO. As the Mustangs’ only returning quarterback, he is expected to start next season.

* Desmond Davis, Jr., RB, Oxnard: Davis ran for 1,640 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Yellowjackets and made the All-County team again.

* Bobby DeMars, Sr., DL, Westlake: Was a redshirt freshman at USC.

* Russell Farrar, Sr., LB, Nordhoff: Left Southern Oregon and will finish the school year at Ventura College. He hopes to join Czernek at Cal Poly next season.

* John Gonzalez, Sr., K, Simi Valley: A punter, kicker, wide receiver and defensive back for the Pioneers in 1996--was a reserve punter at Boise State.

* Eugene Jackson, Sr., DB, Camarillo: A year after leading the county with six interceptions, Jackson started at Moorpark College and received honorable mention on the All-Western State Conference Southern Division team.

* Jeramie Jackson, Sr., DB, Ventura: Was a starting defensive back and running back at Ventura College.

* Joey Locklear, Sr., OL, Ventura: Started at center for Ventura College and received honorable mention on the All-Western State Conference Northern Division team.

* Joe Martinez, Jr., LB, Ventura: Managed to shine on a team that finished 2-8. He was selected to The Times’ All-County team for a second consecutive season.

* Mike McGrath, Sr., OL, Camarillo: The son of Scorpion line coach Terry McGrath was a reserve lineman at Moorpark College.

* Brian Nelson, Sr., OL, Newbury Park: Played sparingly on the offensive line at Brown. He may switch to defense next season.

* Ryan Nielsen, Sr., DL, Royal (defensive player of the year): Nielsen, who had 19 sacks among his 129 tackles for the Highlanders in 1996, was a redshirt lineman at USC.

* Courtney Palmore, Sr., DB, Oxnard: One of the county’s fastest athletes in 1996, Palmore was a redshirt defensive back at Arizona State.

* Casey Preston, Sr., QB, Westlake: Preston, who began the season as a reserve quarterback at Pasadena, threw a 30-yard touchdown pass in a 31-0 victory over Orange Coast.

* Patrick Reddick, Sr., WR, Newbury Park: Caught four passes for 46 yards at Washington. He played on special teams for the Huskies.

* Charles Sandlin, Sr., DL, Camarillo: Gave up football and became the state 177-pound wrestling champion at Moorpark College.

* Jud Southwell, Sr., LB, Thousand Oaks: Southwell, who recorded 134 tackles for the Lancers in 1996, was a redshirt linebacker at UC Davis.

* Pepe Villasenor, Sr., WR, St. Bonaventure: The freshman wide receiver made a team-high eight receptions for 88 yards and helped Ohio Wesleyan University to a 13-12 victory over Kenyon early in October.
