Man, 43, Accused of Soliciting Boy for Sex

Tustin police detectives arrested a man they say was trying to recruit a 10-year-old boy for nude photos and sexual acts, authorities said.

The child’s parent called police after intercepting a note left at their home asking the boy if he wanted “to make extra money and keep all this a secret,” Tustin Police Lt. Mike Shanahan said.

In subsequent weeks, Shanahan said, detectives recorded phone conversations between the child and Thomas Edward Scott, 43.

Tustin police and the multi-agency Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement team arrested Scott on Wednesday at his home in the 18000 block of Vanderlip Avenue in Santa Ana, police said. He was booked on suspicion of child annoyance and solicitation of lewd conduct with a child, police said.

Detectives are trying to determine if Scott had contact with other children, he said. Anyone with information is asked to call Tustin Police Investigator Darryle Mendes at (714) 573-3248 or Sgt. Bill Fisher at (714) 573-3257.
