Oilers, 7:30 tonight: When ESPN SportsZone’s Barry Melrose looks at the Oilers’ offense, he sees big things for Bill Guerin in Edmonton. “With his size and skating ability, Guerin should really excel with the Oilers and he probably will contribute greatly to the offense of [Ryan] Smyth and, particularly, [Doug] Weight.”

* Stars, 5 p.m. Sunday: GM Bob Gainey told the Dallas Morning News that he didn’t expect forward Tony Hrkac, 31, to be claimed on waivers. Hrkac, a standout at North Dakota who never had much success in the NHL until lately, was picked up by Edmonton. Hrkac had five goals and three assists in 13 games with Dallas.

* At Kings, 7:30 p.m. Monday: He’s no all-star--no Kings made the rosters this season--but defenseman Rob Blake is happy just to be healthy this season, USA Today reports. “To know you can skate, hit and shoot without pain, to know you’re not going to spend an hour on the table packed in ice ... I can’t explain it. I can’t properly put the joy into words.”

* Avalanche, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday: After Calgary beat Colorado to win the season series, 3-1-1, Avalanche Coach Mark Crawford had a hard time defining the problem for the Rocky Mountain News. “We had about five guys who even showed any inkling they wanted to be here tonight,” Crawford said last Tuesday. “I don’t know what an inkling is, but I didn’t see very many of them.”
