Xplosion Has to Rally to Beat Glory

Edna Campbell and Vicki Hall made two free throws each in the final 11 seconds as the Colorado Xplosion escaped with a 68-66 victory Friday night over the Atlanta Glory before 3,780 at Atlanta.

The defending Western Conference champions trailed, 34-29, at halftime but outscored Atlanta, 39-32, in the second half to hand the Glory their sixth straight loss and the seventh in eight games.

Campbell led the Xplosion with 18 points. Crystal Robinson added 15 and Tari Phillips 14 to go with 16 rebounds.

Teresa Edwards finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Stacy Lovelace scored 15 points and Boswell 13 in the Glory’s fifth straight loss to Colorado.

Atlanta played without two starters, forward Katrina McClain and center Tracy Henderson, both of whom missed the game with knee injuries.

McClain is expected back after the Jan. 18 ABL All-Star Game. Henderson is expected to miss another two weeks.

Columbus 69, Philadelphia 48--The streaking Quest held the Rage to a franchise-low before 3,576 at Columbus, Ohio.

In addition to winning all three games between the teams, the Quest have held the Rage--located last season in Richmond--to a franchise low for points each time.

Katie Smith scored 16 points, Angie Potthoff 14, and Tonya Edwards 10 for Columbus, which won its fifth game in a row and 13th straight at home.

The Quest extended their Eastern Conference lead to 8 1/2 games over second-place New England.

Shannon Johnson had eight rebounds and 10 assists for the Quest.

Philadelphia shot 33%. The Rage’s leading scorer was Markita Aldridge with 10 points.

The score was tied 17-17 after one period, but the Quest went on a 16-5 run in the second quarter to take a 33-22 lead and break the game open. Potthoff scored eight points during that stretch.

Columbus led 37-25 at halftime and 53-35 after three quarters.
