Channel Islands Catches Second Wind to Beat Agoura

It took two overtime periods, but Channel Islands High outlasted Agoura, 90-83, in a Marmonte League boys’ basketball game Friday night at Channel Islands.

The Raiders outscored the Chargers, 16-9, in the second overtime period, breaking a 74-74 tie.

Dwight Sattiewhite scored 36 points for the Raiders (11-3, 2-2) and O.J. Thomas added 12 points and 10 assists for Channel Islands.

Brian Patterson paced Agoura (8-5, 2-1) with 29 points and Marcus Helfman added 22.

In other Marmonte League games:

Westlake 61, Camarillo 57--Joey Cuppari had 19 points and five steals and Drew Stewart added 16 points for the Warriors (8-6, 1-3), who sank all six of their free throws in the final two minutes at Camarillo.

Jeff Stuteville had 18 points and seven rebounds and Mark Larson added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Scorpions (6-7, 0-4).

Simi Valley 76, Thousand Oaks 56--Rafael Berumen had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Pioneers (15-2, 4-0) at Thousand Oaks.

Branduinn Fullove added 15 points and Ian Boys had 14 for Simi Valley.

Thousand Oaks drops to 5-10, 2-2.

In other games:

Saugus 63, Hart 60--With six seconds left in regulation, Matt Bradley of Saugus hit a two-point shot from just inside the three-point arc to send the game into overtime and he hit a key three-pointer and two free throws in the extra period and the Centurions won a Foothill League game at Saugus.

With the score tied at 54 in overtime, Bradley hit a three-point shot that put the Centurions (7-9, 1-0) ahead for good. Bradley finished with 29 points.

Harvard-Westlake 89, St. Francis 47--Russell Lakey had 18 points and six steals to lead the Wolverines (13-2, 1-0), the No. 4-ranked team in The Times’ regional poll, to a Mission League victory at Harvard-Westlake.

Harvard-Westlake also extended its league winning streak to 27 games.

Notre Dame 68, Alemany 60--Dante Ward scored 25 points and Alec Rutledge scored seven of his 17 in the fourth quarter for the Knights (8-7, 1-1) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

Calabasas 81, Malibu 77--Mike Goldman had 21 points and eight assists in his first game of the season to lead the Coyotes (8-8, 1-0) to a Frontier League victory at Calabasas.

Goldman, the starting point guard, missed the first 15 games because of academic ineligibility.

Santa Paula 68, Nordhoff 59--David Herrera had 25 points and Joey Riccio 23 for the Cardinals (13-4, 1-0) in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff.

Chris Christoffersen had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Rangers (7-7, 0-1).

Palmdale 77, Lancaster 50--Kerry Yates scored seven of his 16 points in the first quarter and the Falcons raced out to a 24-4 lead in a Golden League game at Palmdale.

Oak Park 75, Village Christian 48--Zack Smith had 22 points and Greg Jones 18 for the Eagles (8-6) in a nonleague game at Oak Park.

Santa Barbara 57, Buena 47--Ryan Fay scored 17 points for the Bulldogs (3-12, 0-3) in a Channel League loss at Buena.

Antelope Valley 66, Quartz Hill 64--Roger Price had 19 points and 18 rebounds for host Antelope Valley (10-6, 1-0), which barely hung on in a Golden League opener. Shawn Lett scored 28 for Quartz Hill (8-9, 1-0).

Birmingham 82, Monroe 66--Jerome Riley had 19 points, 11 rebounds and 12 steals to lead the Braves (10-4) in a nonleague victory at Monroe.

Grant 63, Granada Hills 54--Gilbert Arenas scored 37 points and had 15 rebounds and the Lancers (9-6) overcame an early seven-point deficit in a nonconference game at Granada Hills (6-8).

Oxnard 64, Rio Mesa 45--Rick Hernandez and Jacob Rogers each scored 14 points for the Yellowjackets (9-4, 3-0) in a Channel League game at Rio Mesa (4-7, 1-2).
