Norstrom Is Suspended

Share

King defenseman Mattias Norstrom did not play Monday night after being suspended for at least one game by the NHL for a five-minute boarding penalty he received for a hit on Edmonton forward Tony Hrkac on Saturday.

A hearing will be held today to decide if Norstrom will be forced to sit out any additional games, although replays show that the hit did not appear intentional.

“I’m disappointed. . . . When it happened I was on the ice going full speed and at the time I was going only for the puck for sure,” said Norstrom, who has played in 38 games this season.

“We’ll have the conference call with [NHL director of hockey operations] Brian Burke and we’ll see his side of the story. Obviously, he saw something different.”

After missing two games because of a mild concussion, defenseman Doug Zmolek returned to the lineup against the Mighty Ducks and was paired with Garry Galley. Defenseman Jan Vopat, recalled from Utah of the International Hockey League on Sunday, played in his first game and skated with Sean O’Donnell.
