COUNTYWIDE : Garden Grove Official Seeking Auditor Post

Share

Garden Grove City Councilman Mark Leyes has announced his candidacy for the county auditor-controller seat, a position he hopes to fill when he completes his second term on the council late this year.

Leyes, 39, serves as Garden Grove’s mayor pro tem and chairman of the city’s redevelopment agency.

Leyes, who had considered a run for the Assembly, said he “decided I have more to contribute at the local level right now.”

“This is a relatively obscure but still very important seat, especially the auditor position, where I would have some ability to investigate the budget and expenditures of various parts of the county,” he said.

The Garden Grove native holds a master’s degree in economics from Cal State Fullerton and is a government relations executive with the Orange County Water District.

The candidate filing period for the nonpartisan position opens Feb. 9.
