Olympics Surplus Still Paying Dividends

The Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, the agency that disseminates funds from the 1984 Olympic surplus to youth sports organizations, has made new grants totaling $1,290,764 to 33 groups.

The largest grant was $567,500 to Kids in Sports, Los Angeles, to provide programs at 12 parks and schools for more than 8,000 children in inner-city Los Angeles.

Other grants included $150,000 to the National Junior Tennis League for an instructional program for 5,000 youngsters at 140 sites; $85,636 to the Pacoima Athletic Club; $53,416 to the Los Cerritos YMCA; $46,059 to the United Cambodian Community Inc. of Long Beach; and $37,000 to the East Los Angeles College Foundation.

Sixteen grants of $5,000 each went to youth centers and leagues in such widely scattered communities as San Diego, Norwalk, Thousand Oaks, Palm Desert, San Bernardino and Hemet.
