Motorist Killed After Car Breaks Down on Freeway
An El Monte man whose vehicle broke down on the San Bernardino Freeway in San Dimas was struck by a car and killed Monday as he tried to cross the freeway.
Xiao Sheng Deng, 48, died about 7:15 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway just west of Kellogg Drive, a coroner’s official said. His car stalled as he was coming over Kellogg Hill, the California Highway Patrol said.
Deng got out of his car and went around to the front, CHP Officer Karen Faciane said. But a tractor-trailer was heading toward his car so Deng started running across the freeway and was struck by another vehicle, she said.
Police said that the big rig hit Deng’s car and that a van was also damaged in the accident.
