Olympic Experience Might Do Wonders

With less than three weeks until the NHL’s Olympic break, Coach Larry Robinson is hoping the five King players scheduled to play in the historic event begin to pick up their games.

The King Olympians are Rob Blake (Canada), Jozef Stumpel (Slovakia), Mattias Norstrom (Sweden), Vladimir Tsyplakov (Belarus) and Aki Berg (Finland).

“[You have to be ready] because the play is going to be at a new level,” Robinson said. “You have to elevate your play to compete and if you can carry that when you come back, you should be improved.”

The Kings released minor league forward Sean O’Brien from San Antonio of the International Hockey League. . . . Forward Dan Bylsma, who was not with the team in San Jose before the all-star game because of personal reasons, practiced Monday.

Update--The Kings have won consecutive games and are 8-5 in the Pacific Division. They took a 3-0 first-period lead in defeating the Flames, 4-1, at Calgary last month. Center Jozef Stumpel leads the Kings with 31 assists and 44 points, including 10 points in his last 11 games. Calgary has a seven-game unbeaten streak over the Kings (4-0-3) at the Forum. The Flames, however, have won only four of 24 road games all season.
