GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

* Marina at Esperanza, 7:30 tonight: Third-ranked Esperanza has overcome much of the flu that hit the team during the Christmas tournaments. Leah Combs (11.3 points) did a good job defensively against San Clemente’s Colleen Turnbull two weeks ago. This time, she’ll try to shut down Chanda McLeod (12.5 points).

* Mater Dei at Brea Olinda, 7 p.m. Saturday: Annually one of the biggest games of the season, the sixth-ranked Monarchs come in as big underdogs--same as last season when they beat Brea for the third consecutive year.
