Burglary Suspect Held After Fall Through Ceiling
A suspected burglar was arrested early Saturday after he apparently crawled through a restaurant vent but fell through the ceiling, a sheriff’s deputy said.
About 2:30 a.m., a 40-year-old trucker making a food delivery at Bakers Square restaurant on El Toro Road noticed a ceiling lamp swinging back and forth, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Looking closer, the deliveryman saw “a hand descending from the ceiling,” the deputy said.
The witness ran across the street and called authorities, who arrived to find tiles missing from the ceiling and a man “low-crawling between tables,” according to the spokesman.
They surrounded the restaurant and arrested 21-year-old Duglas Vatres as he was running out the back door, the deputy said.
