Native Americans to Discuss Culture

Native American Indians, in an ongoing Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area program, will tell stories of their culture and history every Sunday through February.

This coming Sunday Chumash Indian Linda Aguilar will display traditional and contemporary baskets.

On Feb. 8, Potowatomi Indian Nadiya Littlewarrior will demonstrate her gourd artistry.

On Feb. 15, Chumash Indians Roberta and Julie Cordero will discuss maritime culture and the tomol--an oceangoing canoe.

On Feb. 22, Emanuel Musillo of the Kumeyaay Nation will lead a seminar on collecting Indian art. He will also bring fine art items for sale and display.

The free talks will begin at 10 a.m. Exhibitors will stay until about 5 p.m.

The events will be held at Satwiwa Native American Culture Center at Rancho Sierra Vista / Satwiwa, 4122 W. Potrero Road at Pinehill Road, Newbury Park. Parking is free.
